New Year’s Day is one of the biggest and most popular holidays in
Russia. Like in most other countries, New Year’s Day falls on the 1st of
 January here, but the celebration begins on New Year’s Eve, on the 31st
 of December. Most people start celebrating it in the evening and finish
 early in the morning. The most important part is the moment when the
New Year begins – at midnight.
