Unofficially, the unit formed back in the days of Arma 2 as a small group of the series fans. As years went by, many new members have joined the cause, primarily with the transition to Arma 3. It was then when Forgotten Empire took its current form.

In recent years, Forgotten Empire became more active on an international Arma 3 scene by taking part in (and occasionally hosting) international joint-ops sessions, namely with groups as the French 1st R.C.C.
